*Coffee was not known by native speakers of Latin ... but the closest we can figure is "potio arabica," faba arabica meaning "coffee [berry]"; "potio arabica" meaning "coffee [beverage]."  The original name of coffee was determined in 300 AD in Egypt by Kaldi — “Gahwa” (translating as “preventer of sleep.”)
